peanutbutterandjamzee replied to your post: Do you have dogpeople?
All I know is the Egyptian god with the head of a jackal. I don’t think there are many dogpeople in mythology.
Hmmmm… research tiems!
(…augh, don’t let me do this I have an essay on David Bowie to write for wednesday, and I can’t get distracted!)
(too late, I think.)

um, when you say Nagas, what do you mean? *side eyes*
From what I know, Naga(s?) are usually women from the waist up and snakes from the waist down. I’ve also heard them called lamias?
I’m not going to be drawing them in the typical sense they’re imagined - I’m trying to...
I’m designing races for a story that will probably never get written. I need words for mythical human/animal hybrid sorts, as well as a word which humans which haven’t hybridised might use for themselves. (They mightn’t look very like how we’re used to, but…)
I’ve got Angels (who might have a subset which call themselves harpies, I’m undecided there yet),...
Hey guys - I want to do some real drawing right now. I need to stretch myself from all the SLFPs I’ve been doing lately.
Any requests? (If not, I’m probably going to do random fanart… for series I haven’t watched/read in… years.)

you know, sometimes you are trying on clothes and it makes you cry.
You’re standing there in the dressing room, half-naked in front of the mirror and this is the fifth piece of garment you’ve tried in the fifth store you’ve entered into and it still looks fucking ugly on you, or it doesn’t fit or it’s all wrong. And you know in your...

Thoughts on race and casting.
lesserjoke:
That post about casting a black Sherlock Holmes helped crystallize some of the stuff I’ve been thinking about the controversy over Rue’s casting in The Hunger Games. Here’s what I’m currently thinking, although I would love to get feedback on this.
When adapting source material to a visual medium, or even just casting an original script, the character’s original race should be...
Whelp. I think I’m officially spiralling downwards again. Gonna start keeping track.

how do YOU pronounce prince? How about prints?
I’m in a speech and hearing phonetics course and I am on the verge of calling bullshit.
My intuition is that I pronounce them the same way. Why, what’s the claim being made? I think it’s probably reasonable that some people pronounce them differently and some people pronounce them...

Hunger Games has the 3rd biggest opening in movie history.
An action flick starring a girl.
Who isn’t an emaciated stick.
Who isn’t a princess.
Whose journey is motivated by her sister, not a man.
Who is not sexually used, abused, active or even objectified much.
3rd biggest opening in movie history. Spawning a franchise.
Let’s just… let’s just think...

I’m doing a project on gender-neutral pronouns for my Anthropological Linguistics class and it would be of tremendous help if you could fill this out for me.
I took this, but I had some issues with how several of the questions were worded (which I made clear in my responses). Still, signal boost!
When you get results that are mainly shouted, that...

Stephon stood just a few feet away from Barack Obama. The president, busy shaking hands, looked right at him. “It was like he was waiting for me to say something,” he said later.
So the 26-year-old Prince George’s Community College student took his cue and spoke to President Obama in his first language: American Sign Language.
“I am proud of you,” Stephon signed. The president, almost...

TW: Trans* Slurs, and a Douchenozzle
I just linked to this regretsy post on my facebook. It’s the source of the triggering content - Urban Outfitters made a card with the t word on it, and April Winchell, and ninety eight percent of the commenters on regretsy are pointing out that that shit really shouldn’t stand, or be used (at all, but especially on a card at a major national clothing retailer.)
